We are proud of our long and successful history in water polo, and whilst we are competitive by nature, we encourage our members to enjoy the sport and that winning isn’t everything.

WHY NOT "COME 'N' TRY"?

Essendon is keen to welcome new members and caters for those who have never played before right up to the most experienced.

The Sub-Junior (12&U and 14&U) season coincides with Terms 4 and 1 of the school year, games are on Sundays. Senior competitions consist of Winter Comp (April to Aug) and State Championships (October to December then February to March).

Water Polo Victoria offers a COME ‘N’ TRY membership that covers pool entry, insurance and coaching but does not cover any game fees.

Training is now on for everyone Monday Evenings at Victoria University, Footscray at 7.30pm Senior Women and Men and all Juniors!

ABOUT US

The Essendon Water Polo Club is well known within the Victorian water polo community. We are actively involved in developing the sport in our state and have put several proposals to Victorian Water Polo outlining opportunities to recruit more players to the sport, and lift the profile of the sport within the general community.

Essendon Water Polo presents itself as a "smart ·professional” club where members are proud to wear our bathers and clothing range displaying our dub name and logo. We were the first Victorian club to develop such a range, and soon became the envy of other larger clubs who have since embraced the concept Victorian Water Polo have labelled Essendon the “best dressed” club in the league! In more recent times we have concentrated on lifting our local profile and developing stronger lies with local schools and businesses. We aim to run at least one Junior Development Clinic each year as part of the School Holiday Program to introduce water polo to youth in the local community. Our profile within the area has increased steadily over the years With the addition of recruitment posters and flyers positioned at our training and playing venues. We have been impressed with the number of adults these have attracted from the gym, aerobics. swimming population who are interested in having a go at this great sport.

SUMMER STATE LEAGUE R7 & Semi/Grand Finals

It’s been a big week, with plenty of highs and lows in the pool. Our Men’s SL5 team played their grand final game and were narrowly beaten, having to settle for the runners-up title. Congratulations to all the boys who consistently played well through the competition, only dropping the one game before the GF. Congratulations, well done!

Summer State League – Semi & Grand Finals

The Summer State League has drawn to a close, following the round of Semi and Grand Final games for our junior teams on Sunday. With both our Jnr Women and Youth Boys making their grand final games – it was certainly an exciting weekend for our players. Despite their best efforts, both teams had to settle for silver – but did a tremendous job – doing themselves and the club proud. Well done to all our young players for their efforts this competition!

A couple of reminders…

WINTER COMPETITION

The Winter Comp will commence mid-May. If you haven’t already done so, please indicate to Darren, Torben, your coach or Team Manager if you intend on playing – or indicate you will not be available. It is unclear at this stage whether the subjunior teams (U12s and U14s) will be included, so it’s important for us to weigh up potential numbers in case they are.

WHERE WE TRAIN

We welcome both the new and old. Come to a training night to find out about us and water polo, it’s a great way to keep fit and meet new people. Water Polo Victoria offers a Come and Try Membership that covers pool entry, coaching and insurance for an initial 8 week period.
