The State Championships are over for another year, and Essendon has snared one Premiership title for the competition. Congratulations to our Youth Girls (Black) Team !!!! We also received a number of individual accolades courtesy of two very talented ladies in Alex Cox and Millie Pullyblank.
U18s GRAND FINAL
Essendon Vs Melbourne Collegians
This was a disappointing performance by the girls, who have played well all competition. Our U18 team appeared far more nervous than our opponents who went into the game with the boost of having their SL1 goalie being allowed to participate, even though she had not played the requisite number of games and a nothing-to-lose attitude. Our defensive game plan was on track early on, but an inability to score goals appeared to play on the minds of our girls. As the game unfolded MC was able to capitalise on a number of uncharacteristic errors to build a match winning lead. Alex Cox provided the only bright note at games end, when she was presented with the awards for Most Goals and Most Valuable Player. Later in the day Coxy added two more awards when she picked up the WSL1 Most Goals and MVP trophies. An outstanding achievement.
Essendon were defeated by Melbourne Collegians : 2-8 (Goals : AlexC 2)
YOUTH GIRLS GRAND FINAL
Essendon Vs Melbourne Collegians
With most of the U18 team backing up for the Youth Girls (U16) grand final, Darren had to weave his magic in order to get the girls up and about after the earlier disappointment. There was a steely determination about the girls as they waited for the delayed start. Again we were on top defensively but our early shots were wayward as we appeared to be trying a little too hard to wipe the earlier memory away. As the game unfolded we started to outplay our MC opponents and put some distance between us and them. A mixture of relief and elation greeted the final whistle as Essendon emerged victorious. After the presentation of premiership medals it was Millie’s turn to enjoy the limelight, when she collected the MVP Award and Most Goals double.
Essendon defeated Melbourne Collegians : 10-3 (Goals : AlexC 3, Millie 2, Aileen 2, Stell 1, Lily 1, Charlotte 1)
WINE RAFFLE WINNERS
Club members walk away the winners!
Whilst enjoying the warm weather and hospitality on board The Tramboat, the Wine Raffle Winners were drawn. Our WSL3 player Melinda Childs took out the main prize of 30 bottles of wine, whilst another WSL3 player Vanessa Murray scored the second prize stash of 10 mixed bottles. Club President Andrew Luedecke decided to knock back third prize (6 bottles) and offered the goods up again for a re-draw, only to see his partner Lisa Anderson collect the prize. Well done everyone for selling tickets and providing wine, we made around $500 on the raffle.
