Our Maddy wins Bronze!
I’m currently on the bullet train (300km/hr) from Gwangju to Seoul and I’m wondering where the last couple of days have gone. The Stingers game against Russia, that put the girls into the final four was electric. Then to face the might of the reigning World & Olympic champions the USA. They stepped their game up a level, and while they slowly pulled away on the scoreboard, the Aussies kept them to just 7 goals. So into the bronze medal game against Hungary. Winner gets the medal and the loser goes home empty handed. We got off to a great start with the first couple of goals, but the Hungarians fought back. 3-3 at quarter time. The girls had the lead for most of the game, only for the scores to be locked together again and again. 7-6 halftime and 8-7 at 3/4 time. The last quarter was an arm wrestle and a blur. Suddenly 3 goals up, and then they score and get a penalty. 10-9. We stop a two on one attack and our goalie Gabi pulls off a save that sees the ball bobbing on our goal line. Our last possession we run the clock down to 4 seconds remaining and the Hungarians call a time out. Ahhhh. The longest 4 seconds in my life. We keep them out and the medal is ours. Our little girl, started her waterpolo at Essendon at 6 years old, and is now a World Championship Bronze Medalists. Blessings from Sth Korea
